Enormous hank of genuine metallic cording from the early 20th century
This hank of cording comes from the first two decades of the 20th century or earlier. It is made by wrapping real metal ribbon, very fine and thin, tightly around a core of softly-spun pure cotton. Modern examples of this are still made, the difference is that both the core and the exterior are now synthetic in part or whole - genuine metal like this is now non-existent in Europe. This cord was used to trim along coat facings, or to create fancy calligraphic patterns on garments. This hank is very large and has never been used, it is old shop stock and comes from the same provenance as the metallic laces I currently have up for sale. It is slightly tarnished on the outside with one tiny section of about 2 mm where the wire has unwound, but the interior is beautiful and the whole is a lovely bronzey gold. The hank is 47cm in length and 8.3cm in circumference - there are many many metres here.
