Piece of 19th century silk and metallic thread textile

€30.00

Possibly cut down from a liturgical garment, this is a piece of burgundy red silk woven with real metal thread to form an intricate design. This sort of fabric was much-used for religious garments and display panels, and this piece is also backed with the sort of cotton that was often used as the interfacing or backing on 18th and 19th century liturgical garments and chausables. This is a small piece that would look wonderful framed. It is in very good condition, it has one small droplet mark where it looks as if something has tarnished the metal fabric to a greenish tinge. It measures 29.5×57cm
