Large piece of pure fine unbleached linen sheeting with unfinished border for finishing or reuse.
This beautiful piece of pure unbleached linen was intended to become a sheet with a handmade cutwork buttonhole stitch border. But for whatever reason, the last small corner of the border was never completed, and none of the finishing or hemming was done. French antique and vintage linen was always worked with the sizing still in the fabric to make is sit and behave properly, and so this sheeting still has the original sizing from its manufacture, even though there has been extensive embroidery already completed. There are some small faint discolourations from storage and age but in my experience a good soak and a hot wash will get rid of these. However if you wish to finish the border (there is not much left to do) or to hem this and turn it into a sheet, I can advise doing so before you soak and wash it as afterwards it will be difficult to handle. Or you could simply reuse the fabric and the border. The fabric is a really beautiful quality of linen and is quite fine for unbleached linen. It measures 235×302cm.
