Large 18th century cut steel buttons

€45.00

These beautiful buttons were made for men’s outer garments in the 18th century. They are made from pressed and cut steel, assembled and riveted, and their silvery sparkle must have been beautiful to see in a dark room illuminated only by candlelight. They have a wonderful weight and a tactile coolness. They are shank-backed and each measures 3cm in diameter.

These are rare, and special. I have never come across any of these quite so intricate or beautiful, or this many of the same sort. It would be lovely to keep them all together, but I know that might be very difficult at the price-point I must sell them. They are all in perfect condition, a little tarnished but you’d expect that after hanging around for 250 years. I will give priority for the first week to anyone who would like to take the lot - if you do they would be €320 for the six.
