Beautiful late 19th century cotton nightgownwith hand-embroidered details

€110.00

This is a wonderful piece, a late 19th century cotton nightgown, completely hand-stitched with tiny pleats and hand-embroidered trim at the bodice. The style of the embroidery places this as being from around the Touraine region, an historically very wealthy area. The little embroidered slits along the front of the bodice would have originally had a silk ribbon threaded through them. The sleeves are gathered at the shoulder to give a slight volume and puffiness.

This is in very good condition. There are a couple of very small marks on one side below the bodice, which will be unseen amongst the voluminousness of the gown. The arm seams have both come loose and need to be restitched, but there is no loss and no damage. This seems to have been very little worn.

On a mannequin these gowns tend to look a little clunky - on a human form they are very elegant. This is probably best on a FR38-small-busted 40. It measures 55cm from armpit to armpit lying flat, but it is slightly gathered above this point and is best suited for someone with a small to mediuum-sized bust. It is 129cm long.
