A large printed government announcement, dated 1777

This is a real beauty of a piece, very large and in gorgeous condition. It is a local government announcement from the province of Dauphiné, in what is now the Auvergne, and it states that Christophe Pajot de Marcheval, who, amongst other things, is a knight and a king’s counsellor, has been accorded the sum of 50000 livres in order to organise a way of getting poor people and those without work (including old people and children) to clean an area of land to build some public ateliers on (this is what I can understand!) The people above are requested to come with shovels, pickaxes, wheelbarrows and baskets to clear the land, and they will be paid a daily rate.

I particularly like down the very bottom that the printery that printed this beauty is titled ‘The printery of the Widow Faure and Sons’, in Grenoble. There must have been a number of these printed, some of which were used and signed with the date filled in. This one was apparently never used - the date field on the small italic side-note on the right-hand side has been left blank, it just says A …… le…….177 …… the spaces being a place to fill in the name of the village, the day and month, and which year of the decade 1770 this was used.

This measures 38x50.5cm and is a very large and exceptional example of one of these declarations. It so needs to be framed.

Please note that depending on who buys this (someone with an existing box being held with me, or not) there may be a surcharge of €4 for a sturdy cardboard tube to protect this, as it is too large to be posted flat.
