An almost perfect vintage blue moleskin workwear jacket 'Debure Deverchere'

€245.00

A French classic, the blue workwear jacket, but this one is in that holy grail of French workwear, moleskin. Dating from the 1960’s, this jacket is a deep rich royal blue, darker than most of these jackets, and is in pretty much perfect condition. It is made from a beautiful thick moleskin - if you don’t know the difference between moleskin and cotton cavas, you need to rectify that because moleskin is one of the most sumptuous textiles for clothing. It is a brushed satin-faced sheared cotton, and the vintage and antique examples, such as this one, were woven so tightly and thickly that they are wind-proof and will provide some protection against damp. I have two pairs of 1960’s moleskin workpants that I regularly wear both for gardening and for general wear and not only do they look fabulous but they are warm and soft and move with your body - it is the ultimate in comfort dressing And to top it all off, it is very very hardwearing. But it is now not made to the same standard it once was. And vintage examples such as this one are very rare and very sought-after.

This jacket is very little worn or possibly not at all. The colour is deep and unfaded and the finish is beautifully glossy and soft. There are a couple of small marks on it, possibly it had something metal rested on it for decades. It has three pockets on the outside and one on the inside. The back of the jacket has been made in two pieces, unlike more modern examples in which the back is one single piece. All seams are reinforced. Tagged a size 54, it measures 60cm from armpit to armpit done up, lying flat, across the front of the chest, and the arms are 61cm from the shoulder seam to the cuff. It is 47cm across the back of the neck from shoulder seam to seam and is 69cm long. A fantastic garment and an outstanding example of the blue workwear jacket.
