Early 20th century women's blouse with embroidered collar and cuffs and faux drawn-thread front
This amazing blouse contains so much work. The front looks at first glance like drawn-thread work but has actually been minutely pleated and then strips of fabric removed and replaced by a zig-zag of loosely-spun threads to mimic drawn-thread work. Then hand-embroidered polka-dots have been added in rows. The collar and front ruffle are scalloped and hand-embroidered, the cuffs go one step further in the intricacies of the scalloping. It does up with little carved mother-of-pearl buttons. This is almost perfect, there is a very faint yellow mark at the front which is barely visible and which the camera can’t hardly pick up but I have photographed it anyway - it’s the last photo.
This is a small size and is stretched slightly on my mannequin. Please read the measurements and compare them to a piece you already own. Lying flat it measures 46cm from armpit to armpit. The sleeves are 47cm from the shoulder seam to the cuff excluding the scalloped ruffle. It is 51cm long. These were meant to be quite short, they were worn with a very high-waisted skirt.
