Early 20th century aube in fine linen gauze
A large voluminous aube, probably for an older choir-boy, made in a fine stiff linen with a handembroidered collar. This is in excellent condition, the only small damages are barely damages at all, at the back of the neck where the fabric has been pleated the weave has been pulled, and at one sleeve cuff the delicate crochet-lace trim has come unstitched for a scant 2 centimetre length. This is entirely wearable, although it would need a garment underneath as it has a very deep neck opening that extends almost two-thirds of the length of the garment. The sleeves are very long and slightly shaped, and although much of the garment seems machine-stitched, the bottom seams of the sleeves have been done meticulously by hand. The hand-embroidered trim around the low collar is a pattern of little oak-leaves. There is a handstitched cross and number at the back of the collar. This is a free size.
I simply don’t find these any more of this age in good condition. This came from a lot I bought over five years ago.
