Linen-rich piece of very old grey and cream striped mattress ticking
This is a piece of early 20th century mattress ticking in a linen-rich métis. It has been cut from a sprung bedframe rather than from the mattress itself, and so has avoided the usual staining found on mattresses. But it is missing its corners, where it was cut to fit over the base, and has holes and damage around all edges where it was tacked to the wooden frame using little handmade iron tacks, one of which I found still embedded when I washed this piece. It does have rust stains in the centre, which I have pictured, but is perfect for smaller projects. It measures 150cm wide by 259cm long and is missing rectangles of approximately 18×18cm from each corner.
