A vintage 1980's French army jacket - beautifully-made
Hailing probably from the mid-80’s, this beautiful jacket is made from a herringbone twill-woven cotton canvas, and like all vintage French workwear and army and navy uniforms, it manages to combine the maximum of stylishness and comfort with the maximum of utility. Have a look at the photos and you will see. Double-pockets which both button and fold will ensure that nothing ever falls out of your pocket even if you are doing somersaults. The asymmetrical button-up collar is to make sure that no rain or wind slides down your neck and makes you cold. At the waist is an interior drawstring to make sure the jacket is shaped to your body. This really is a superb piece of kit and yet another example of how French workwear has informed both high fashion and utility tailoring.
This is used and it does have some damage, notably on the cuff, plus a couple of tiny holes. This simply adds to its wonderfulness - it has had a life and has wear and patina. Gen X me would have sewn a Nirvana patch to the back and covered the front in badges and Gen X me still would!
It measures from 48cm armpit to ampit buttoned up and lying flat, 44cm from shoulder seam to seam across the back of the neck, 58c, from shoulder seam to sleeve cuff along the top of the arm, and is 70cm long.
