This piece is made from an exquisite fine dense linen that is cool and smooth and very beautiful, and it has an embroidered yoke front of really exceptional skill. You can see from the little very intricate monogram on the breast just below the yoke embroidery that this belonged to someone of means and possibly title as well - both the quality of the cloth and the skill of the embroiderer attest to this also. It has been completely handstitched with minute stitching. At some point, someone has quite competently altered the sleeve openings - they probably had the same embroidered scalloping as the neckline. The alterations have been done by hand and are perfectly acceptable. This is in almost perfect condition, there is a tiny tear beginning at one of the embroidered scallops on the back, and at the front this has probably been stored with an old pin in it that has rusted and left a miniscule hole. Both of these things could do with a little attention, but once done, this is really exceptionally beautiful.
It measures 52cm from armpit to armpit lying flat, and is 89cm long from shoulder to hem.
