A beautiful length of pure silk damask fabric, probably dating from around 1930-40. This is a lovely forest green, although being a damask the tint subtly changes depending how the light hits, from a grass green to a deeper forest green. This has some tiny marks all the way along the length. I am not sure what these are caused by, whether it was exposed to damp at some point, but it has caused the green to bleach in places to its original components of blue and yellow. It doesn’t smell musty, and is physically still strong (although it is silk so must be treated gently). The discolouration, of which I have photographed the worst, is all the way along but at the same time it is not noticeable at all except close-up and the fabric really is exceptionally beautiful. The only physical damage is one tiny damage on hem just near one end. It measures 74cm from selvedge to selvedge and is 240cm long. It has been priced taking the discolouration into account.
