19th century boat-necked plain work smock in pure linen
This is a very beautiful and wearable piece, made from a medium-fine machine-milled linen. This would have been worn over other clothing like a smock, to protect them when doing heavy work. It has been entirely handmade and handstitched with delicate little stitches. It has a wide boat-neck neckline, and three little initial letters FLI. The armholes are quite wide for these sorts of garments and I have tried it on for wearability and am happy to report it is perfect. It is also in perfect condition. Look at the detail photos of the stitching, it’s really a beautiful garment.
It measures 65cm from armpit to armpit lying flat across the chest, so 130cm around the chest/bust. The arm openings are 28cm lying flat/56 cm around where they meet the body with the underarm gusset included. It is 99cm long.
