Handwoven 19th century hemp sheet initials BR - #2
A handspun and handwoven hemp sheet from sometime in the 19th century. This has been made from two panels of handwoven fabric stitched together. It has a very lovely slubbed texture which comes from having a weft which is finer than the warp - it may be that the weft is linen and the warp is hemp - but whatever it is, the main fibre in this sheet is indeed hemp. In very good condition with the exception of two tiny wears, the size of moth-holes, this is a lovely strong sheet. It measures 207×216cm.
