Very large, very old handwoven hemp tablecloth

Another piece from the Vendée, and from deep into the 19th century, this beautiful old tablecloth is made of two panels of handwoven fabric joined together to make a cloth that is far wider than these pieces usually are. There are raised weft stripes at both ends, they have been matched across the handstitched seam as this fabric would have been woven expressly to make this tablecloth. This piece has been used and it is worn, but the wear has softened the once stiff hemp, and the original colour has faded to a cream. There is a faint stain and a very small damage, both of which I have pictured. It measures 171×179cm.
