An amazing farmhouse tablecloth with initials LH

€120.00

This beautiful tablecloth is made from two panels of slightly different textile handstitched togteher which were nevertheless purpose-woven to be a tablecloth. Both seem to be linen, or linen métis, and both have the raised weft stripes common on tablecloths like these. Two thirds of the cloth are made from one type, the more textured, the remaining third comes from a smoother piece which is probably machine woven. I suspect that someone has taken the opportunity to add a similar piece of machine-milled textile to a handwoven piece in order to widen it. It is quite wonderful in its pieced-togetherness - the handwoven portion is especially beautiful. Just one small stain which I have pictured - this is otherwise perfect. 186×165cm.
