Very large 19th century handspun and handwoven 1hemp teatowel initials DG
From my contact in the Vendée once again I have some limited pieces of amazing hemp coming from a wealthy 19th century farmhouse. This is a very large teatowel which was woven expressly to be a teatowel (most hemp teatowels were cut down from worn-out sheets and have hems on either side - this one has selvedges) with raised weft-thread stripes at both ends. Handmade large eyelet hook-hangers at either end. In excellent condition, this measures 66×119cm.
