Late 50's or early 60's deadstock moleskin overalls - 'DCM Extra' size 40-42
Not my most spectacular find but one of the rarest, this is a pair of never-worn work overalls in the Holy Grail of workwear fabrics, moleskin, and in a rare smaller size. These date from the very late 50’s or the early 60’s, and they are in mint condition. Moleskin is a thick satin-faced cotton fabric. It is far more durable than cotton canvas, it is also warmer and softer - exactly as it is described (it has the same name in French, moleskin) - it was used for winter workwear. This pair has its shop label intact. All buttons are present, all zips work, all seams are immaculate, the elastic in the straps is in perfect condition. There is a tiny little sewing fault in one of the fabric parts of one strap, which I have pictured. They have some dust marks from where they were stored but these will come out with washing - I have not washed them because they are shop-fresh but 60+ years old. Otherwise immaculate.
These are tagged FR42 (this goes for women’s sizing as well) which is rare because most overalls are much larger, being traditionally mens clothing, but they are maybe just a little bit smaller. I would say a modern FR40. They measure 42cm at the narrowest part of the waist lying flat, 49cm at the widest part of the hips, and the inseam is 74cm from the crotch to the pants cuff along the inside leg seam.
The colour is closest to the first photo, the camera washes it out up close, these are a deep dark blue.
