It’s always wonderful when the pieces I find decide to date themselves for me. This happens occasionally with workwear and army pieces which sometimes had the date of issue stamped or labelled - and such is the case here. This never-worn classic blue workwear jacket dats from 1981, and was manufactured by the workwear manufacturer Henri Roquette & sons, from one of France’s great textile manufacturing centres, Lille, in the far north of the country. This is made from a beautiful midnight blue twill-woven pure cotton canvas. It has two side pockets, one front external pocket, and one interior pocket. It is in perfect condition, it still has not only the original tag but the original shop sticker on the inside. This would have been manufactred to supply directly to city or town councils or to the SNCF, France’s great railroad syndicate.
It measures 61cm from armpit to armpit across the front of the chest lying flat and buttoned up, 49cm across the back of the neck from shoulder seam to seam, 61cm from shoulder seam to cuff edge along the top of the sleeve, and is 68cm long.
There is a second of these jackets which seems to possibly have been washed, as it is just under 1cm smaller in all measurements and the sizing is no longer in the textile. It is also a very beautiful deep indigo blue. It is also in perfect condition and is €80 - it has the label intact and does not appear to ever have been worn.
