Wonderful handwoven linen farmhouse sheet initials RG - please read description
This is such a beautiful piece of cloth, a handspun and handwoven pure linen sheet from well into the 19th century. It is textured, soft, drapey, and wonderful. It has also had a bit of a life. Physically in very good condition, it has a number of marks on it. At some point a long time ago it was exposed to water and has some mildew stains. The damp was long gone and hasn’t affected the sheet structurally (I soaked this for 48 hours, washed in on 90 degrees, celcius, dried it in full sun and then tested its strength ) but it has left the tell-tale sprinklings of tiny black marks. It has other small marks as well, which won’t come out, as well as two tiny wears. But if you can look past its imperfections, this is a wonderful example of handspun and handwoven antique linen and would also be suitable as a very large rustic tablecloth. It has been priced accordingly. It has a very lovely pair of initials in one corner, and the number underneath indicates that it came from a house of some means, in this case I happen to know it was from a wealthy farmhouse in the Vendée. It measures 219×280cm.
