I bought this from a seller who was at one of the big professional markets and who had come across from the Alsace region in eastern France. It is a very beautiful shirt made from handwoven linen, and the style is very unlike the shirts I find around my region of France. This is more like a work blouse or smock. It has a linen collar and is entirely hand-stitched. I have taken a lot of photographs because I find this piece extraordinarily beautiful and I think it is also very old. It is in exceptional condition, no damage or marks, seems to have been very little worn. It has little handstitched initials PD on one side down near the side gusset. It measures 63cm from armpit to armpit lying flat across the chest, 52cm across the back of the neck from shoulder seam to seam, the arms are very wide and a bit like poet sleeves and they measure 52cm from the shoulder seam to the cuff edge along the top of the sleeve, and it is 102cm long at the front and 106cm long at the back.
