A large pure linen tablecloth with raised weft stripes and initials RG

€135.00

From the late 19th century or the first few decades of the 20th, this tablecloth is made from a piece of sturdy pure linen which has been hand-hemmed at both ends. It has raised-weft stripes at either end, and the initials RG with the number 14 cross-stitched in red in one corner (please see my recent newsletter to know why there is a number as well as letters stitched on this piece - this and its size indicate that it came from a well-to-do household, probably a wealthy farmhouse or estate). It is in almost perfect condition, it has a couple of very small marks but no physical damage. I have soaked and washed it. It measures 173×234cm.
