Set of four German damask handtowels - "Behüt dich Gött"- initials EF

€75.00

These date from somewhere between the 1930’s and early 50’s, probably late 40’s. They are made of fine linen and cotton métis damask, with a design of a man dressed in renaissance clothing blowing a trumpet, a castle in the background, some strangely tropical-looking foliage, and the words ‘Behüt dich Gött’ (God be with you/God protect you) in large lettering at the bottom - all woven into the damask patterning. They were found unused, and I have soaked and washed them. They have hook tapes at the top. They are in perfect condition, measuring 47×106cm.
