A salesman’s sample in a soft burgundy with gold and cream damask design of doves and bows. This is a silk and cotton damask and was intended as furnishing fabric. It probably dates from somewhere between the late 20’s to the late 40’s. It is in good physical condition, there is a tiny 1.5cm tear at the top edge, just at the selvedge. The quality of the silk and the lustre is superb. This comes from the now-closed silk manufacture of Le Manach, which was based in the old town of Tours since the early 19th century, and whose archives and designs were bought up by Pierre Frey in 2014. It is in perfect condition, although being old silk it would be inadvisable to put it under too much stress - ideally this would be for making into cushion tops or for hanging. It measures 55×122cm.
