Superb late 19th century hand-embroidered panel #2

Sale Price:€22.00 Original Price:€37.00
sale

This piece of embroidery has been done by hand on a netting ground and would have been destined to become headwear. It dates from the late 19th century and comes from the Touraine. It is in perfect condition, and combines hand-embroidery with the most incredibly delicate appliqué’d infills of mechanical lace to create the contrasting petals of the flowers. It’s been stitched in the centre to form the beginning of a coif-cap. It needs to be reused somewhere as a centrepiece, or perhaps framed - I have never found pieces like this in this unused condition. It measures approximately 30cm wide and 41cm long. It has a few pale marks but it has been soaked and delicately washed.
