c.1900-1910 piece of sample passementerie

€80.00
Sold

This amazing large piece dates from the very early part of the 20th century, and still has its label on the back. This is a sample of trimming passementerie for dress-making, and it heavily shows its Middle Eastern and Indian influences in the boteh motifs, despite being French-made. One a metallic net background, the designs are applique’d on in metallic fabric shapes overworked in heavy green silk cord, finer silver and bronze metallic cords, and chainstitched highlights. This is a wonderful and pristine example of French couture trimming, and it deserves to be framed. It measures 26.5cm wide by 66cm long.
