Made from a finer unbleached pure linen fabric, this sheet has been given an exceptional triple ladder border. At first glance, these borders seem like nothing much, until you learn how they were made. The artisan who made this one has firstly unpicked the weft threads from these three lines - in itself this is a mssive amount of work to do well, without damaging the warp threads, and especially with vintage pure French linen like this which was very densely and evenly woven (trust me I have done this it takes HOURS and HOURS!). She has then taken up her needle and, grouping the warp threads in sets of three or four, she has tightly wrapped them to form the rungs of the ladder border, stitching each rung in place as she works. Once you understand how these are made, you can see that this was days or weeks of work - and this example is exceptionally well-done - very fine and even. The lower hem is handstitched. The sheet measures 240×328cm, which is very wide for these vintage pure linen sheets. It is in perfect condition and has probably not been used much if at all. I have soaked and washed it.
