These sheets came from a grand house in Tours - too grand - they seem to have spent the last 50-60 years or so in an armoire, and although I found them with storage marks, the sizing was still in them and a soak and a wash has made them utterly perfect. This is good quality linen and cotton métis, which is an ideal compromise for people who don’t have time to iron (which antique and vintage pure linen really requires) because good métis combines both the cool, crumply, drapey qualities of linen with the softeness and easy-care aspect of cotton, and is harder wearing than pure cotton. You can still see the stamp ‘Toile métis “Fleur Bleue”’ running down the selvedge - this ink tends to disappear completely after a couple of washes.
These have been made up by a professional sheet-maker, and the fine ladder border is entirely handmade - done by carefully removing the weft threads along the border and then wrapping the remaining warp threads in groups of three or four, stitching to hold as she worked. It is painstaking work, and each sheet would have taken many hours. The lower hem is also delicately hand-stitched.
In perfect condition, each of these measures 220×318cm. At time of posting there are three identical sheets. To purchase, please message me via the contact form - please include the title of this listing as it doesn’t come across with the message.
