Handwoven linen métis sheet with scalloped border and initials VV
An exceptional and quite rare piece, this sheet is made from a handwoven linen and cotton métis and has a beautiful texture. The fabric is pale but the weave is shot with darker threads. The sheet has been made from two panels of this handwoven fabric delicately stitched together, and has then been sparsely but beautifully embroidered with a scalloped shaped border and initials BV, plus given a fine border of drawn threadwork. This is an unusual sheet because it is both quite fine handwoven peasant linen métis, and because it has been so beautifully and carefully embroidered, something which was not very common for peasant bedlinens. At the opposite end of the sheet there is the more common way of marking such a piece - a red cross-stitched set of initials ‘JD’. This measures 216×296cm. To purchase, please contact me.
