Handwoven linen and cotton sheet perfect for upholstery

This sheet is quite amazing, a very dense, tightly-woven combination of tightly hand-spun linen, and loosely hand-spun cotton. Cotton came into France in unwoven raw bales - none of France’s colonies had ginning or milling industries and so some of this unspun cotton must have made its way into the marketplace. The end result here is a very durable but beautiful fabric shot with darker threads and with a lovely even texture.

At some point, this sheet has gotten far too close to a fire - which has singed along the points where the sheet was folded. You can see from the pictures where the singe marks are, right across the centre of the sheet. But the rest of the sheet is not affected at all, and is very strong. It seems to have been unused before it got damaged.

This textile is also perfect for upholstery, or for any project where a very strong piece of durable textile is needed. This one measures 210×230cm. It has a little hand-stitched initial in one corner that might be a J or a P.
